Navy Comm

Heroic achievement while serving as Team Leader and Master Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technician, Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team 1, Detachment 4, Explosive Ordnance Disposal Platoon, 3d Battalion, 3d Marines, Regimental Combat Team 7, I Marine Expeditionary Force Forward from January 2006 to July 2006 in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM. Chief McMullen’s superb technical and tactical abilities, coupled with his experience and wealth of knowledge, enabled him to stay abreast of the latest enemy tactics, techniques and procedures. As the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Chief, he repeatedly placed himself in harm’s way in order to defeat enemy improvised explosive devices. His pre-emptive actions prevented the loss of countless coalition forces and civilians. On one mission in particular, with little regard for his own safety, he neutralized an improvised explosive device by hastily digging it from the earth and defusing it by hand, protecting the lives of his fellow marines and sailors. Chief Petty Officer McMullen’s initiative, perseverance and total dedication to duty reflected credit upon him and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the Marine Corps and the United States Naval Service.
