Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with Combat Distinguishing Device

NAMHeroic achievement in the superior performance of his duties while serving as Fire Team Leader, 3d Squad, 1st Platoon, Company L, 3d Battalion, 3d Marines, Regimental Combat Team 7, I Marine Expeditionary Force Forward, on 20 June 2006 and 1 July 2006, in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM. After receiving wounds in action against enemy forces on two separate occasions, Lance Corporal Richmond refused to be relieved of his duties after either incident. He continued to discharge his duties by calling in directions of enemy fire, the impacts and origins of indirect fire and maneuvering his fire team into position to repel the enemy attack. His steadfast devotion to mission accomplishment demonstrate his superior level of perseverance and focus on the task at hand. His self-sacrifice and willingness to place the mission above his personal safety distinguished him as a true combat leader and epitomize the notion of courage under fire. Lance Corporal Richmond’s initiative, perseverance, and total dedication to duty reflected credit upon him and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the Marine Corps and the United States Naval Service.
