NAMProfessional achievement in the superior performance of his duties while serving as Platoon Commander, Company I, 3d Battalion, 3d Marines, Regimental Combat Team-7, I Marine Expeditionary Force Forward, from March to September 2006, in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM. On 27 May 2006, Second Lieutenant Rodriguez’s patrol comprised of his Marines and Iraqi Army soldiers came under enemy small arms fire. Immediately directing fire at the enemy position, he directed over watch security and pursued the fleeing insurgents while simultaneously coordinating with the company quick reaction force to seal off potential egress routes. While in pursuit, additional enemy fighters approached from a different direction and assumed firing positions. This enemy force was immediately engaged by the over watch team, quelling the attack before it could commence. Continuing to pursue the enemy, Second Lieutenant Rodriguez isolated the initial attackers and detained them without further incident. Second Lieutenant Rodriguez’s initiative, perseverance, and total dedication to duty reflected credit upon him and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the Marine Corps and the United States Naval Service.
