Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with Combat Distinguishing Device

NAMHeroic achievement in the superior performance of his duties while serving as squad leader, 3d Platoon, Company I, 3d Battalion, 3d Marine Regiment, Regimental Combat Team 7, I Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward) on 25 and 26 March 2006 in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM. Corporal Jansen significantly contributed to combat operations by leading his Marines with unwavering energy and enthusiasm. While conducting a security patrol, Corporal Jansen’s squad came under heavy enemy machine gun and rocket-propelled grenade fire. Without hesitation, Corporal Jansen directed his squad’s fire power on the enemy and coordinated with the company combat operations center for the quick reaction force and the medical evacuation of a wounded Marine. The following day, his squad was attacked by an improvised explosive device. He immediately established a cordon of the blast site and led a search for the triggerman. His superb leadership and courageous actions proved that he was the driving force behind his squad’s combat performance. Corporal Jansen’s initiative, perseverance, and total dedication to duty reflected credit upon him and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the Marine Corps and the United States Naval Service.
