Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with Combat Distinguishing Device

NAMProfessional achievement in the superior performance of his duties while serving as Platoon Corpsman, 3d Platoon, Company K, 3d Battalion, 3d Marines, Regimental Combat Team-7, I Marine Expeditionary Force Forward, on 25 April 2006, in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM. Immediately following the detonation of an improvised explosive device, Hospital Corpsman Third Class Paez established a casualty collection point for two Marine casualties. He then assessed both Marines and determined that one was an urgent and the other a priority casualty. Without hesitation, he applied tourniquets to the urgent patient’s left arm and right leg, preventing the marine from bleeding to death. He also provided clear and concise information to the radio operator to pass critical information to the company combat operations center, directly contributing to the rapidity of the medical evacuation. In a chaotic and demanding environment, he maintained his composure and was instrumental in saving the lives of two Marines. Hospital Corpsman Third Class Paez’s initiative, perseverance, and total dedication to duty reflected credit upon him and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the Marine Corps and the United States Naval Service.
