Professional achievement in the superior performance of his duties while serving as rifleman, 3d Fire Team, 3d Squad, 2d Platoon, Weapons Company, 3d Battalion, 3d Marines, Regimental Combat Team 7, I Marine Expeditionary Force Forward, on 31 May 2006. Lance Corporal Guevara was manning an over-watch post at the Baghdadi traffic control point when he observed a vehicle aggressively speed towards the Iraqi Army post. Immediately recognizing the driver’s hostile intent, Lance Corporal Guevara engaged the vehicle, causing the suicide vehicle-borne improvised explosive device to detonate prior to reaching the Iraqi Army post. Shortly thereafter, a fuel truck rapidly approached, disregarding the Iraqi soldiers’ commands to stop. Lance Corporal Guevara engaged the driver, instantly killing him and halting the truck. Lance Corporal Guevara’s rapid assessment of the situation effectively disrupted the enemy’s ability to inflict casualties, and it demonstrated his keen situational awareness and decision making ability. Lance Corporal Guevara’s initiative, perseverance and total dedication to duty reflected credit upon him and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the Marine Corps and the United States Naval Service.
