Biography

Lt Fleming on patrol with 1-1Scott Fleming reported to Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia for Officer Candidate School on 30 May 2008. After graduating Officer Candidate School, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant on 9 August 2008. He then reported to The Basic School in Quantico, Virginia where he was designated as an 0302-Infantry Officer. Upon graduating The Basic School, he attended Infantry Officer Course also in Quantico, Virginia. After graduating from Infantry Officer Course, he reported to Kilo Company, 3d Battalion, 3d Marine Regiment, on 10 October 2009 for duty as the 1st Platoon Commander.

In May 2010, Second Lieutenant Fleming deployed with Kilo Company to COP Jaker, Nawa District, Helmand Province, Afghanistan in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM 10.1 where he served as 1st Platoon Commander. He was promoted to his present rank on 9 August 2010. He was killed in action on 17 September 2010.

Civilian Schools: Blessed Trinity Catholic High School, Roswell, Georgia, graduated in 2004; LaGrange College, LaGrange, Georgia, graduated in 2008.
Military Schools: Officer Candidate School, The Basic School, Infantry Officer’s Course.

First Lieutenant Fleming is survived by his wife Brandi, his father Joseph, his mother Joanne, and his sister Andrea.

Awards: Purple Heart, Combat Action Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, and the NATO Medal.
